  • School Mission

Shanghai Guanghua College's(SGC) mission is to help students become responsible citizens who are truthful and original in their pursuit of excellence.

  • School Philosophy

By maintaining the highest standards of integrity, we strive to instill in our students a strong sense of respect for the ethics required by foreign (non-Chinese) institutes of higher learning, while also making SGC a valued recruitment source for colleges and universities seeking students who are prepared both academically and socially for integration into academic communities abroad. Consistent with our core philosophy, all the students at SGC are taught in an English speaking environment by native English speakers and qualified bilingual teachers.

The first class of Shanghai Guanghua College graduated in June 2011, making for a track record of seven graduating classes, all of whom are attending prestigious colleges and graduate schools all around the world (please see below for details).

Programs

SGC operates two programs:

  • 1.SGC is a registered Cambridge International Examinations Centre (Centre Number CN213) since 2008, one of the earliest CIE Centres in mainland China, providing British-system GCE A Level courses for local Chinese students who want to pursue higher education abroad.

  • 2.From the Fall semester of 2015, Shanghai Guanghua College has maintained a partnership with Wasatch Academy, a prestigious independent high school in Utah. In this program, SGC provides Wasatch's curriculum and AP courses for local Chinese students aiming to attend U.S colleges and universities.

Guanghua-Wasatch Academy Diplomas Program is a three-year program.

Students will receive a Wasatch Academy diploma after successful completion of courses and credits required by Wasatch Academy. Wasatch Academy is also the partner school of Beijing National Day School and Naniing Foreign Language School in China. Shanghai Guanghua School is a registered AP school at the College Board (CEEB Code:694597).

To earn a Wasatch Academy diploma, students should choose courses in seven categories to fulfill at least 18 credits (English*3, Math*3, Science*3, Social Science*3, Technology*2, Arts*2, and Electives*2). If the students pass the course with a C- or above over the year, they can earn one credit.

The school offers ten AP courses currently: Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, Physics C, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, U.S. History, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics. Students in Guanghua-Wasatch Academy Diplomas Program are encouraged to choose one to four AP courses in general.

GPA calculation

Grade point average is calculated on a 4.33 System. The school does not use a “weighted” grade point average. All subjects are included in the grade point average. Plus (+) and minus (-) grades are calculated into the GPA.
